You Never Asked Me To - April 16 - Campaign Update

Campaigning is an exercise in listening. We may not always agree with one another, but a disagreement does not discount the value of an individual voice. Strong communities are not built from agreement on every issue. They are bound together by love and mutual respect. So, we listen.

Friends and Neighbors,

Campaigning is an exercise in listening. We may not always agree with one another, but a disagreement does not discount the value of an individual voice. Strong communities are not built from agreement on every issue. They are bound together by love and mutual respect. So, we listen.

Last week at a glance:

  • I celebrated our business community at the Chamber of Commerce and spent an afternoon hearing about the positive impact that the Tyler Economic Development Council plays in our local economy.

  • Visited with Texas State Teachers Association (TSTA) and the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) in Austin to learn how I can be an advocate for our active and retired teachers.

  • Was energized to spend time with the newest Leadership Tyler class. With leaders like them in our community, the future of East Texas is bright.

  • Last Monday I shared a presentation with South Tyler Rotary Club and was pleasantly reminded of what a roomful of people committed to service looks like.

  • Had the honor of spending an evening with the Junior Achievement of the Greater Tyler Area. Another great organization that demonstrates how strong we are when we work together.

Neal’s Notes
I want to share with you one of my favorite comments from this past week, a story shared during a breakfast I was having with a local elected official. It was a sweet reminder of the task before me.

The elected official was talking with a local voter who said to them:
“You know, I didn't vote for you.”

The elected official was taken aback by this person's candor and replied,
“Well, why didn’t you vote for me?”

To which they answered,
“Because you never asked me to!”

Over the next seven months, I will be asking everyone in House District 6 to join me on this journey toward effective representation in Austin.

I ask you to join me on that journey through donations, sharing my name with your friends and family, sharing an endorsement, and helping me bring an effective East Texas voice to Austin.

BUMPER STICKERS ARE IN!
If you want a "Katz For Texas" bumper sticker,
let me know, and I will get it to you!

If you know someone I need to meet, please introduce me!

I look forward to seeing you all as I move out and about.

To peace,
Neal
